A
young artillery officer goes to his army for an inspection after he
takes his post and finds that a soldier always stands under the cannon
tube without doing anything at all. Upon inquiry, the young artillery
officer gets the answer: it is the practice is descended from the old
times when the cannons are carried by horse carts. The soldier standing
under the cannon tube is responsible for holding the horse rein so as to
prevent warp of distance due to the kick produced when the cannon is
fired and save the time to make collimation next time. However, the
cannons are not carried by the horse carts yet, but the soldier remains
standing there following the old practice rule. The young officer is
awarded for his finding by the Ministry of National Defense.
