| Polygraph in China | |||
|
In
Chinese history, there was a method named ‘Wu Ting’, which was used
in detecting truthfulness or deception of the suspicions by observing
and estimating his or her statements, breath, expression,
hearing, and expressions in his/her eyes. At the end of the 19th
century, Ceuare Lombroso, an Italian criminal law expert, used
physiology testing technique in polygraph, and at the beginning of the
20th century, an American policeman named Keele manufactured and
utilized a polygraph instrumentation. In

| Polygraph FAQ | |||
|
§What
is Polygraph?§
Polygraph
is named by the ‘polygraph instrumentation’, which can record many
physiology reflection indexes. By those records, a polygraph examiner
can analyze the examinee’s psychological condition, thus estimating
whether he or she is involved in a criminal case. Generally, the
criminal of a case intends to lie, so the technique is popular called
‘lie-detection’. In fact, it is the changing of the physiology
reflection that is tested by the technique rather than the deception
made by the examinees. §What
are the components of a polygraph instrumentation?§ It is composed
by a computer, a mainframe and the transducers. The main transducers
include the electrodermal activity transducer, the pneumograph, the
cardiograph recorder, and blood pressure transducer. §What
are the theoretical bases of Polygraph?§
The
theory of psychology, physiology and the exchange principle. §Under
which conditions the examinees can not undergo an examination?§
under
the following conditions, the examinees can not undergo an examination:
hungry, tired, too cold or hot, after having alcohol, drug addict, catch
a cold, have a fever, heartbreaking, taking nerve-inhibiting medicines
within 12 hours, suffers heart disease or psychosis as well as the
over 3 months pregnant women, children under 13 years old and the
quarter-witted persons.

| Interesting History of Lie-detection | |||
|
Based
on some research, the history of human being’s lie-detection was
started in BC 900 and there has been various ‘techniques’ of
lie-detection: Boiling
Water Technique:
A thief had to put one of his/her fingers into the boiling water or oil.
If his/her finger was hurt, it would show that he was lying. How
superstitious and cruel the method was! Holy
Monkey Technique:
It was said that there was a kind of holy monkey in Chewing Rice Technique: Each suspicion was demanded to chew a handful of rice and then spit out. Because the liar was lack of saliva, so the rice he/she spit out was obviously drier than that of the honest persons. Actually some physiological theories were utilized in the method. |
