Online Frauds Prevention in China

Key words: China, online, shopping, beforehand investigation, reputation, due diligence

Recently some foreign friends have been cheated when they shop online from Chinese sellers. My friends comment they would not be deceived if they think through.

When shopping online from foreign sellers, you should discern and analyze what you saw. There are two essential factors as clue. One is cultural difference, the other is most customers are unfamiliar with online shopping in China.

Below are two customized suggestions for preventing online frauds.
1. Notice cultural difference, and investigate beforehand to prevent risks
In most cases, the customers, who are misguided by the English sites developed by Chinese sellers, think the services shall be excellent. Doubts come up if pay attention to the details: if the seller has an English site, it must have a Chinese site too because China is a big profitable market which every shrewd merchant wants to occupy major market share. Be alert to those sellers who only give you an English site or recommend its English site first. Some consultation at professional business investigation institutes is necessary and to prevent risks beforehand is worthwhile.

2. Bear a risk prevention mind, and learn more about the transaction process
Notice the details during the online transaction. Firstly, get a well understanding of the things you intend to buy. Do not trust the seller on his bare word. It’s better to compare other sellers in the same industry. It is rare that one seller monopolize the market especially in nowadays’ market. Secondly, pay attention to the seller’s reputation and due diligence. Comments from other customers and trading capacity are a great reference. But customers must be careful that some sellers may fake the online comments. Thirdly, study the seller’s identity. Those sellers who only have a mobile number, email or MSN can not be trusted. Finally, following the normal trading process is the base for success. Do not listen to the sellers’ excuses for anything abnormal.

To sum up, be alerted, carry a mind for risk prevention, and investigate due diligence beforehand will make you enjoy a happy online trading.
